The high energy fragment separator, with a large beam acceptance, consists of a pre-separator and a main separator. It is designed to produce exotic nuclei far from stability via projectile fragmentation and in-flight fission reactions. Through electromagnetic separation and purification, short-lived radioactive ion beams required for nuclear physics experiments are obtained. The system offers multiple operation modes with excellent particle identification capability and can also function as a high-resolution spectrometer for studies such as new isotope discovery and tensor-force effects.
