Spectrometer Ring (SRing)

Apr 13, 2026

The spectrometer ring is a key experimental terminal of HIAF, integrating multiple experimental systems, including an isochronous mass spectrometer, Schottky spectrometer, in-ring reaction spectrometer, electron–ion recombination spectrometer, as well as laser and electron cooling systems. It enables high-precision measurements of nuclear masses and lifetimes of nuclei far from stability, studies of exotic decay modes of highly charged ions, and investigations of nuclear charge distributions and reactions. In addition, SRing supports high-precision measurements of highly charged ions, allowing exploration of electron correlation, relativistic effects, and quantum electrodynamics (QED) in strong coulomb fields. It also provides hyperfine spectroscopy of exotic nuclei and enables extraction of ground-state nuclear properties of short-lived isotopes.
