Experimental platform for atomic and molecular collision dynamics at CSRe

May 28, 2025

These platform enables the kinematic complete measurement of the ionization and fragmentation process of atoms, molecules and clusters in collision with high energy and highly charged ion beam. The target system of this setup can provide cold supersonic gas jets for a variety of atoms, molecules and their clusters which are gaseous (such as He, H2) or liquid (such as H2O, C2H5OH) at room temperature. Multi-coincidence measurements of the ionic fragments, the emitted electrons and the scattered projectile in the final state can be achieved. Such measurements will play an important role in many fundamental and intersectional research fields, such as quantum correlation and relativistic effect in high-energy collisions, coulomb explosion imaging of molecules, molecular reaction dynamics induced by heavy ion impact, and the micromechanics of radiation damage at molecular scale.
