The Muon Detectors (MD) within the 1 km² array (KM2A) are utilized to measure the muon content of extensive air showers (EAS). Each detector comprises soft water bags filled with ultrapure water, housed in concrete tanks measuring 6.8 meters in diameter and 1.2 meters in height. A photomultiplier tube (PMT) is mounted at the top center of each water bag to collect the Cherenkov light generated by muons as they pass through the water in the tank. This Cherenkov light is then captured and converted into electrical signals for precise measurement and analysis.
