Plant In-Vitro Bank

Jun 13, 2025

The Plant In-Vitro Bank is one of the five core facilities within the Germplasm  Bank of Wild Species. It primarily focuses on collecting and preserving wild plant species that are difficult to conserve using conventional methods. These include orchids, ferns, succulent plants, and species producing recalcitrant seeds. Species preservation is achieved by obtaining explants through field collection, deposits from other institutions, or resources exchange, followed by cultivation via pathways such as protocorm-like body formation, short-node cutting propagation, cluster shoot proliferation, or organ culture. The Plant In Vitro Bank comprises five functional units: an office, an operation room, a pre-cultivation room, an experimental material storage room, and a room-temperature storage room. The total area is approximately 270 m², with the room-temperature storage room occupying 120 m². The facility is staffed by six personnel, including one permanent staff position.
