On May 29, Professor Mohammad Javan, Director of the Primate Advanced Research Center of Excellence (PARCE) at the Royan Institute for Reproductive Biomedicine (Iran), led a delegation to visit the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The delegation included Dr. Mohammad Reza Abolghasemi, Deputy Director of PARCE, and Dr. Mostafa Hajinasrollah.
The delegation toured several research platforms at KIZ's Ciba Campus, as well as the Kunming Animal Museum. They gained a detailed understanding of the institute’s disciplinary development directions, major scientific achievements, and platform operation management mechanisms. Subsequently, they visited the National Facility for Phenotypic and Genetic Analysis of Model Animals (Primate Facility) for inspection and a discussion session. The two sides exchanged views on KIZ’s disciplinary strengths in primate research, personnel exchanges, and academic collaboration. They engaged in in-depth discussions on stem cell therapy, the creation and application of animal models for diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, gene editing technology, and the standardized breeding of non-human primate laboratory animals. Both parties expressed hope to establish long-term cooperation mechanisms to promote cross-regional scientific collaboration and innovation under the "Belt and Road" framework.
The delegation also conducted a field inspection of the facility’s scientific technical platforms and experimental animal breeding areas.
