The Ion Track Membrane Terminal 2 (TR3) is built for basic and applied research on fine ion track membranes. At TR3, heavy ion irradiations are carried out for both small-sized samples and large-area membrane-rolls.
The TR3 terminal consists of beam line, multi-stage differential vacuum pumping system, high power beam scanning system, wide range beam diagnosis and feedback system, fast-loading irradiation chamber for small-size samples, vacuum irradiation chamber for large-area membrane-rolls and data acquisition system. It has multiple innovative technologies, for example, wide-speed-range precise and independent transmission for dual membrane-rolls under vacuum environment, multi-dimensional irradiation angle control, as well as large area beam uniformity monitoring.
The TR3 terminal can be irradiated with SSC-LINAC, SFC, SSC-LINAC+SSC and SFC+SSC accelerated heavy ion beams. The ions range from He to U, and the energy is up to 100 MeV/u (C). The maximum beam intensity is ~50 μA (SSC-LINAC), and the ion fluence is up to 1011 ions/cm2. Moreover, the maximum width of membrane-rolls irradiation is 500 mm, and the transmission speed is continuously adjustable from 0.5 mm/s to 500 mm/s. The small-size sample is 5 cm × 5 cm.
